Greg Seamon has been involved in prescribed fire and wildfire since the 80s, working primarily in the Southeast. Greg began his career in 1980 as a biologist with the National Audubon Society at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. He then went to work for The Nature Conservancy in southern New York before moving back to Florida where he worked 15 years as The Nature Conservancy’s Northwest Florida Director of Conservation Resources. He pioneered research and application of sandhill community restoration in the Florida panhandle. He is author or co-author of a number of scientific articles on restoration. While in this position Greg was a founding member of the North Florida Prescribed Fire Council and has served twice as the chair of the steering committee. He was responsible for organizing the first three Prescribed Fire Media Academies in north Florida and serves on the Council’s Fire Festival committee. In 2005 he received the North Florida Prescribed Fire Council’s Chairman’s Award for his work with the council promoting prescribed fire. He became the Senior Restoration Ecologist for a consulting firm in 2004 before becoming the Fire Training Specialist at PFTC in 2008, first for The Nature Conservancy and then Tall Timbers. Greg has a B.A in Zoology from Miami University. He is qualified as an RXB2, FEMO, FIRB, and TNSP and currently serves as a member of the Southern Area Type 1 Red Team. Greg has taken advantage of opportunities to burn in Belize, Mexico, Portugal and Australia during his career. When not involved with fire, Greg spends his time playing the blues on his harmonica during open mic nights around Tallahassee.
