The National Interagency Prescribed Fire Training Center (NIPFTC) offers a unique programs that blend prescribed burning experience with a flexible curricula covering foundational topics for prescribed fire practitioners and fire and fuels managers. Emphasis is placed on field experience, providing maximum opportunities for a multitude of organizations and agencies (including international participants, non-governmental organizations, and federal, state, local and tribal government agencies) to build skills and knowledge of prescribed fire.
NIPFTC's headquarters are in Tallahassee, Florida at the Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy. Training locations are dispersed throughout Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. The Southeast is an ideal site for the NIPFTC due to the year-round burning programs of several agencies, broad prescription windows, and the high level of interagency cooperation. Participants travel to several remote sites during their trainings to take advantage of prescribed burning and learning opportunities with a variety of agencies, fuel types, and challenges such as urban interface.
Programs include a 20-Day Fire Leadership for Women (FLFW) Sessions, 20-Day Mixed Module Sessions, and Agency Adminitsrator Workshops. NIPFTC also provides detail opportunities.
