The National Interagency Prescribed Fire Training Center (NIPFTC) offers unique programs that blend prescribed burning experience with a flexible curriculum covering foundational topics for prescribed fire practitioners and fire and fuels managers. Emphasis is placed on field experience, providing maximum opportunities for a multitude of organizations and agencies (including international participants, non-governmental organizations, and federal, state, local, and tribal government agencies) to build skills and knowledge of prescribed fire.
NIPFTC's headquarters are in Tallahassee, Florida at the Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy. Training locations are dispersed throughout Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. The southeast is an ideal site for NIPFTC due to the year-round burning programs of several agencies, broad prescription windows, and the high level of interagency cooperation. Participants travel to several remote sites during their trainings to take advantage of prescribed burning and learning opportunities with a variety of agencies, fuel types, and challenges such as wildland urban interface.
Programs include Fire Leadership for Women (FLFW) 20-Day Sessions, Mixed Module 20-Day Sessions, and Agency Administrator Workshops. NIPFTC also provides detail opportunities.
