Robert's profound commitment to prescribed fire and training has deep roots. He embarked on his land management career in 1998, initially joining the Florida Forest Service where he served as a Forest Ranger. During his nine years there, he gained valuable insights into leadership and fire management. Robert took that solid foundation of learning to his next chapter, Everglades National Park. This dynamic environment presented him with a vast window of opportunity to learn about broad scale fire management.

Following four years with the National Park Service, Robert assumed the role of Assistant Fire Management Officer (AFMO) at the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, part of the US Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS). Over a three-year tenure, he oversaw a substantial area, encompassing five refuges. Subsequently, he accepted a USFWS Wildland Fire Liaison position based at Avon Park Air Force Range. In this role, he was responsible for collaborating, planning, and executing prescribed fire operations, including the development of burn plans and fire management strategies. Additionally, he provided National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) training opportunities to the fire staff. Avon Park Air Force Range also served as a host for various NIPFTC modules in support of the training center.

In 2018, Robert relocated to Tallahassee, Florida, assuming the position of Director of NIPFTC. Throughout his journey, he actively engaged with all three of the Southern Area Incident Management Teams since 2008.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Robert and his wife Lori share a love for the outdoors and often enjoy quality time on the water with their two daughters.
