TIM GARITY - NIPFTC TRAINING SPECIALIST

U.S. Forest Service

Boise, ID 83705

Email: timothy.garity@usda.gov

Office: (208) 405-6604

Tim started his fire career in 1995 as a volunteer firefighter while attending the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. It was here that his interest in training began while interning at the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems. But it was his love for the outdoors that lead him to a career with the US Forest Service (USFS) in the year 2000 on the Boise National Forest.

Taking advantage of the 2001 National Fire Plan, Tim accepted an apprenticeship position and all of the opportunities that it provided. From working on engines, Type 1 and Type 2 IA hand crews, aerial delivery (as both a rappeler and a smokejumper), to a Fuels Technician, and DAFMO before accepting his position here in 2022. Throughout that time, he has taken every opportunity to assist in training, either as a lead or unit instructor, a Field Coordinator for FUTA and NIPFTC, and as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for NWCG. Aside from working on the Boise National Forest, he has held positions on the Payette National Forest, Schenck JC, Chattahoochee – Oconee National Forest, as well as details with NICC and NWCG, and regularly participated on the Great Basin Incident Management Team as a Division Supervisor.

His interests are mountain biking, snowboarding, surfing, and visiting National Parks with his wife and 2 children.
